Swiss Franc (CHF; symbol Fr) = 100 centimes. Notes are in denominations of CHF1,000, 200, 100, 50, and 20. Coins are in denominations of CHF5, 2, 1, and 50, 20, 10, and 5 centimes.

Major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) are widely accepted.

ATM

ATMs are widely available, and cash withdrawals can be made using international cards.

Currency restriction

There are no restrictions on importing or exporting local or foreign currency, but cash amounts over CHF 10,000 (or equivalent) must be declared at the border.

Liechtenstein duty free

As Liechtenstein forms a customs union with Switzerland, Swiss Customs regulations apply. Travellers over 17 years of age may import the following goods duty-free:
• 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 250g of tobacco.
• 1L of spirits over 18% alcohol by volume or 2L of alcoholic beverages under 18%.
• 4L of wine.
• 16L of beer.
• Other goods up to a total value of CHF 300 per person.

Banned imports

Prohibited items include meat and dairy products from non-EEA countries, narcotics, counterfeit goods, and endangered species and their products (such as ivory, protected leathers, and certain plants). Restricted items include weapons, ammunition, fireworks, plants, and cultural artefacts requiring permits. This list is not exhaustive. Banned exports

Prohibited exports include endangered species and their derivatives, cultural artefacts of historical value without authorisation, and narcotic or psychotropic substances.
