Where to stay in Bulgaria
Bulgaria has a wide range of accommodation, from international and boutique hotels in Sofia and other major cities to small family-run hotels and guesthouses. The Black Sea coast has the greatest concentration of resort hotels, particularly around Sunny Beach, Golden Sands, Nessebar, Varna and Burgas, while Bansko, Borovets and Pamporovo are the principal winter resort areas.
Guesthouses and small family-run hotels are common in historic towns, villages and mountain regions and can be a good option for travellers exploring rural Bulgaria. Accommodation in popular coastal and ski resorts can become heavily booked during the main summer and winter seasons.
Campsites are found along the Black Sea coast and in some mountain and rural areas, although facilities vary considerably. Many operate seasonally, particularly those near the coast. Wild camping is restricted in protected areas and on some beaches, so travellers should use designated sites where required.
