Where to stay in Croatia
Croatia has accommodation ranging from luxury hotels and resorts to small family-run hotels, guesthouses, hostels and private apartments. The widest choice is found in Zagreb and along the Adriatic coast, particularly in Dubrovnik, Split, Istria and the larger islands. Many coastal properties operate seasonally, while accommodation in Zagreb and other major cities is generally available year-round.
Privately rented rooms and apartments (sobe and apartmani) are particularly widespread along the coast and on the islands and can range from simple rooms in family homes to high-end villas and apartments. Prices rise substantially in July and August, especially in Dubrovnik, Split and popular island resorts.
Croatia has numerous campsites along the Istrian and Dalmatian coasts and on the islands. Facilities range from large holiday parks with restaurants, swimming pools and direct beach access to smaller campsites and pitches for campervans and motorhomes. Wild camping outside authorised sites is generally prohibited.
